The program curriculum includes content that informs parents of the effect of separation and dissolution of marriage on children; teaches parents how to help children adjust to change; helps parents understand that children, whenever possible and appropriate, need frequent, continuing and meaningful contact with both parents; and informs parents of the benefit of alternative dispute resolution, including mediation. The program addresses age-appropriate needs and behaviors of children; helps children deal with their feelings about the separation of their family; and helps children cope better with the stress and changes involved in their parents' separation or dissolution.
The Focus On the Kids program would be beneficial in situations in which children are being put in the middle between parents, whether in a divorce/custody situation or when parents display conflict while remaining within the relationship.
